Started as a strategy to reduce travel time within the city and a need for healthier private space, moving out of the house and living in a flat didn't feel like living in a stereotypical temporary housing situation at all. It wasn't difficult to get used to social interactions, both horizontally, such as glances and warm greetings in the communal corridor when the door was open, and vertically, traveling to and from the fourth floor.

This project essentially maps, summarizes, and transfers everything that has happened over the past year of living in the flat into an exhibition space. Domestic adaptations and lifestyles that suddenly changed dramatically are recorded as a learning process, from producing living spaces to hacking kitchen areas, filling empty spaces according to the needs, activities, and habits of the residents.

Seeing the creativity of flat residents who influence and inspire each other, this open source culture is expected to disseminate new knowledge to the public. Using production methods and device configurations tailored to individual needs, Raslene captured this project in various forms;

From installations of domestic objects and personal collections, cooking recipes, key storage maps, calculations of daily household and other tasks, to a standard ergonomics book.

After the production process, observing the patterns of life in the flat from within the building is also crucial, especially during the pandemic. Some residents leave the flat for months, others stay up late at night, others become more passionate about cooking and sharing their scents with their surroundings, and even a bird regularly taps on the balcony window because its shadow is too clearly reflected during the day.

In her free time, Raslene focuses more on observing the conditions and habits of the flat residents, observing how they interpret their living space, including observing the neighborhood cats. Sometimes, she observes from her window, eyeing into someone else's window if it happens to be open, which reminds her of Edward Hopper's painting, "Night Windows." Although the presentation of this project focuses primarily on production and reproduction, the learning process is far from over.

Berawal dari strategi pemangkasan jarak tempuh dalam kota dan kebutuhan ruang privat yang lebih sehat, keluar dari rumah dan tinggal di rumah susun ternyata tidak terasa seperti tinggal dalam stereotip perumahan temporer sama sekali. Tidak sulit membiasakan diri dengan interaksi sosial, baik secara horizontal, seperti dengan lirikan mata dan sapaan hangat di koridor komunal ketika pintu rumah sedang terbuka, maupun usaha untuk pulang dan pergi secara vertikal ke dan dari lantai empat. 

Proyek ini pada dasarnya memetakan, merangkum, dan memindahkan apa-apa saja yang telah dilakukan selama setahun lebih tinggal di rusun ke dalam ruang pamer. Adanya adaptasi domestik dan pola hidup yang seketika berubah menjadi sangat berbeda, direkam sebagai proses belajar, mulai dari memproduksi ruang tinggal hingga meretas area dapur, mengisi ruang yang kosong sesuai kebutuhan, kegiatan, dan kebiasaan penghuninya.
 

Melihat kreativitas penghuni rusun yang saling mempengaruhi dan menginspirasi penghuni lain, open source culture ini diharapkan bisa menjadi distribusi pengetahuan baru bagi publik. Dengan metode produksi dan konfigurasi perangkat yang menyesuaikan kebutuhan pribadi, Raslene merekam proyek ini ke dalam bentuk yang beragam; dari instalasi benda-benda domestik dan koleksi pribadi, resep memasak, peta penitipan kunci, kalkulasi porsi hari-hari kerja domestik dan kerja-kerja lainnya, hingga buku standar ergonomi ruang.

Setelah selesai dengan proses produksi, tentu mengamati pola kehidupan di rusun dari dalam ruang juga penting, terutama di masa pandemi. Ada penghuni yang meninggalkan rusun berbulan-bulan, ada penghuni yang lebih sering begadang siang malam, ada yang lebih rajin memasak dan berbagi aroma ke sekitarnya, hingga seekor burung yang rutin mengetuk jendela balkon karena bayangannya terpantul terlalu jelas di siang hari.

Di saat-saat luang, Raslene lebih fokus mengamati kondisi dan kebiasaan penghuni rusun, melihat bagaimana mereka memaknai tempat tinggalnya, termasuk mengamati kucing-kucing tetangga. Terkadang, ia melakukan pengamatan dari jendelanya, mengintip ke jendela orang lain yang kebetulan terbuka, lalu mengingatkannya pada lukisan Edward Hopper, Night Windows. Walaupun presentasi proyek ini lebih banyak berupa produksi dan reproduksi, sebenarnya proses belajarnya masih belum selesai.
