Layar Kelana (2018).

Berfiksi dengan Seluloid:

A workshop by Lab Laba Laba.

Layar Kelana is a nickname from us to outdoor cinema a.k.a layar tancap.

Layar means screen and Kelana in Indonesian means travel or wander,

as the cinema used to move from one place to another, held in an open field to celebrate something, to entertain the neighborhood, or sometimes held in the fairground or festival.

Since the digital era spread out, for public, it is a rare practice and chance to experience outdoor cinema, especially the tangibility of film itself. Therefore, we initiate to conduct a simple workshop by using old found footage and Indonesian classic films in 16 mm that we got from ex-outdoor cinema entrepreneurs. We ask people to create a new story line or re-narrate the films by using any scenes they found in the collection. This workshop is made by purpose of introducing how images work, edited and move frame by frame then to be projected on screen as film or moving images. We are glad that people feels excited to experience this workshop as a new learning object.

Layar Kelana is a collective work with Lab Laba Laba, a Jakarta based artist collective and independent film lab who practically learning, working and experimenting with analog films and archives.
